FERRERO della MARMORA, CARLO VITTORIO, also called TERESIO MARIA. - Cardinal, of the same family as the preceding figures, but of the branch of the marquises of M., b. at Torino on 15 Oct. 1757, d. in the abbey of S. Benigno di Fruttuaria on 31 Dec. 1831. On 27 June 1796 he was elected by Pius VI bishop of Casal Monferrato. During the French occupation he received the captive Pius VI and accompanied him as far as Torino. On 1 Feb. 1805 Pius VII transferred him to the united dioceses of Saluzzo and Pinerolo, where F. sought to mitigate the harsh conditions of Card. Pacca and other Roman prelates confined in the fortress of Fenestrelle. When the former government was restored in 1814, he was appointed the king’s grand almoner.
