FOLMARO. - Provost of the Regular Canons of Triefenstein (Petra Stillans) in the diocese of Würzburg, born at the beginning of the 12th century, died about 13 April 1280. He is known for various Eucharistic and Christological errors attributed to him Gerhoh (v.) and Arnone of Reichersberg.
Probably his errors amounted to the denial of Christ’s organic quantity in the Sacrament («sanguis sine carne... care sine ossibus et membri»: Ep. ad Eberhardum Salisburg; PL 194, 1481). Violently attacked, F. abjured the error before a Synod presided over by Everardo of Bamburga, making a fine profession of Eucharistic faith (Ep. 5: politonella Folmari; PL 194, 1485-86). He also inclined towards adoptionism (v.) in the lost work De carne et anima Verbi Del. He was refuted by Arnone in the ebologeticum contra Folmarum (PL 194, 1529-38, fragment; complete but defective edition by C. Weichert, Lipsia 1889).
