FOLMAR. - Provost of the Canons Regular of Triefenstein (Petra Stillans) in the diocese of Würzburg, b. at the beginning of the 12th century, d. around 13 April 1280. He is known for various eucharistic and christological errors, which the two fiery brothers Gerhoh (v.) and Arno of Reichersberg attributed to him.

His errors probably amount to the denial of the organic quantity of Christ in the Sacrament ("sanguis sine carne... caro sine ossibus et membris": Ep. ad Eberhardum Salisburg.; PL 194, 1481). Violently attacked, F. abjured the error before a Synod presided over by Eberhard of Bamberg, making a fine profession of eucharistic faith (Ep. 5: politonella Folmari; PL 194, 1485-86). He also inclined toward adoptionism (v.) in the lost work De carne et anima Verbi Dei. He was refuted by Arno in the Elogeticum contra Folmarum (PL 194, 1529-38, fragment; complete but defective edition by C. Weichert, Leipzig 1889).
