FURCHERI, Damiano, Blessed. — Dominican preacher, also known as Damiano da Finale, born in Petri di Finale Ligure (Savona) at the beginning of the 15th century, died in Reggio Emilia in 1484. After meeting the Dominicans in Finale, he entered the Dominican habit at the convent of S. Domenico in Genoa. He was a religious of great virtue, learning, and charity. He traveled through much of northern Italy preaching.
He left behind some writings: sermons on the liturgical year, short treatises, etc. From his tomb in Reggio Emilia, various miracles made known his power with God, and on 4 August 1848 Pius IX confirmed his cult. Feast on 26 October.
