FURCHERI, DAMIANO, blessed. — Dominican preacher, also called Damiano da Finale, born at Perri di Finale Ligure (Savona) at the beginning of the fifteenth century, died at Reggio Emilia in 1484. After becoming acquainted with the Dominicans at Finale, he donned the habit in the convent of S. Domenico in Genoa. He was a religious of great virtue, learning, and charity. He travelled throughout much of northern Italy, preaching.
He left several writings: sermons on the liturgical year, pious meditations, etc. From his tomb at Reggio Emilia he made his power with God known through various miracles. On 4 August 1848, Pius IX confirmed his cult. Feast: 26 October.
