Born in Florence on 12 Oct. 1565 into a humble family, he remained a layman all his life, though he studied sacred sciences and engaged in religious apostolate. After reforming various pious associations and confraternities, he founded a new congregation called that of St Francis of the Christian Doctrine (1602), whose members were nicknamed “Banchettoni.” Despite the opposition he encountered, he spread his work beyond Florence—to Lucca, Parma, Modena, Perugia—and gave it precise regulations, insisting strongly on spiritual practices. GALANTINI also performed many prodigious acts, wrote ascetical treatises, and converted various unbelievers. In Florence on 20 March 1619, after a life of constant poor health, he died.
