HARRACH, ERNST ADALBERT. — Count, cardinal, b. 4 Nov. 1598 at Vienna, d. there 25 Oct. 1667. After studying at the Jesuit College in Neuhaus near Krumau (Krumlov) and at the German College in Rome, he was consecrated Archbishop of Prague in 1624 and created cardinal two years later.
For more than forty years he directed the Catholic restoration in Bohemia. He founded new seminaries, consecrated churches and established the two bishoprics of Leitmeritz and Königgrätz. In carrying out his work he was greatly assisted by Franciscan and Dominican preachers, as well as by the Jesuits.
