HARRACH, ERNST ADALBERT. – Count, cardinal, born on 4 November 1598 in Vienna, died there on 25 October 1667. After studying at the Jesuit College of Neuhause near Krumau (Krumlov) and at the Germanicum in Rome, he was consecrated archbishop of Prague in 1624 and created cardinal two years later.
For more than forty years he directed the Catholic restoration in Bohemia. He founded new seminaries, consecrated churches, and established the two bishoprics of Leitmeritz and Königgrätz. In carrying out his work, Franciscan and Dominican preachers, as well as the Jesuits, were of great assistance to him.
