IECTAN (Hebr. Joqtān, Septuagint: Ἰεκτάν). — Son of Eber of the line of Shem (Gen. 10:25), whose sons (Gen. 10:26–30) bear names recognizable as tribes or localities of Yemenite Arabia, e.g., Saba, Asarmoth (Ḥadramūt), etc.
The parallel name Qaṭṭān found in certain Arab traditions seems to be regarded as independent of the Mosaic account and thus, like the information in Gen. 10 (“table of the nations”), to be connected with the most archaic memories of the Semitic stock. Giovanni Rinaldi
