JOBAB (HEB. JĀBHĀBH). - Name of various figures of the Old Testament.

1. A Semite, thirteenth and last son of Joktan (Gen. 10:29; 1 Chron. 1:23). Ancestor of an Arab tribe, in Yemen (E. Glaser, see bibliography); others identify it with the Ḥaḏāpīrān of Ptolemy (VI, 7, 24).

2. King of Edom, at Bozrah (Gen. 36:33 ff.; 1 Chron. 1:44 ff.). An apocryphal addition to the Greek translation of Job identifies this man with Job (v.).

3. Canaanite king of Madon (Hirbet Madin, west of the Sea of Galilee). He took part in the northern confederation, under the auspices of Jabin, against Joshua, who defeated it (Josh. 11:1, 7 ff.).

4. Two Benjamites (1 Chron. 8:9, 18).
