IGNAZIO da LÁCONI, Blessed. - Capuchin lay brother of the province of Sardinia, born at Láconi (Nuoro) on 17 (or 10?) Dec. 1701. During a serious illness he vowed to become a religious and received the novice’s habit on 10 Nov. 1721 in the convent of S. Benedetto (Cagliari). He died at Cagliari on 11 May 1781.
Initially assigned to duties in the convents of Buoncammino, at Cagliari, and of Iglesias, from 1741 until his death he exercised the office of questor for the aforesaid convent of Cagliari, perfecting himself in the traditional virtues of the holy Capuchin alms-collectors: prayer, penance, and charity toward all those in need in body and spirit. The supernatural gifts with which he was favoured caused him to be loved and venerated by persons of every social class. He was beatified by Pius XII on 16 June 1940. The processes for his canonization are under way.
