JANNINCK, KONRAD. - Jesuit, Bollandist, b. at Groningen on 16 Nov. 1650, d. at Antwerp on 13 Aug. 1723. Given for some time as an assistant to Frs. G. Hensken and D. Papebroch (1679-81), he moved on to the study of theology at the Roman College and took advantage of his stay in Rome to gather hagiographic material. Having returned to the College of the Bollandists in 1681, he worked on the 12 vols. of the Acta SS. from vol. V of May to vol. II of July; but various journeys abroad and some spiritual ministry distracted him from more assiduous work.

He played a principal part in defending Fr. Papebroch, attacked by the Carmelites over the question of the origin of their Order from St. Elijah (Acta SS. Aprilis, I, pp. 433-437), and on his journey to Rome to plead that cause, after the condemnation of the Acta SS. by the Inquisition of Toledo, Saragossa, Madrid and Valladolid, he succeeded in preventing more severe condemnations.
