SAINT LIBORIUS. — Little is known about his life. He seems to have succeeded PAVAZIUS as Bishop of Le Mans, a see which he governed for 49 years. He worked zealously for the good of the diocese, promoting the construction of no fewer than 17 churches and increasing the number of clergy. He died on 9 June 397, attended by Saint Martin of Tours, who also arranged his burial in the church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, where his two immediate predecessors had likewise been laid to rest. His tomb became a place of pilgrimage and miracles were reported there. In 836 his body was translated to Paderborn.
In the Roman Martyrology he is commemorated on 23 July.
