JEAN DE LORIN (LORINUS), S.J. — exegete, b. at Avignon in 1559, d. at Rome on 26 March 1634. He began his novitiate in 1575. He taught philosophy at Rome, theology and Sacred Scripture at Paris, Milan, and Rome. He also served as theologian to the General of the Society of Jesus. He procured the conversion of many Jews. His erudite, somewhat prolix exegetical works were not highly esteemed and went through several editions.
Noteworthy among these are: Disputatio de S. Scriptura a p. Lorino dictata in Collegio Cloromontano (Clermont 1589–90); In Acta Apostol. commentaria (Lyon 1605).
