MANNI, Giuseppe. — Scolopian, writer and poet, b. in Florence on 20 Aug. 1844, d. there on 21 Jan. 1923. He taught literature in the Scuole Pie, exerting a beneficial influence on many through his character and pedagogical skill.
Initially sharing in the manner, not only of Carducci but also of Marradi, he was animated by patriotic, civic and religious passion, which he expressed in personal ways. In his poetry and in the two volumes of epigraphs (Cari morti, Florence 1909; Rindri, ibid. 1918) he achieved notable effects in championing and formulating elevated sentiments and concepts.
