MANNI, GIUSEPPE. — Piarist, writer, and poet, born in Florence on 20 August 1844, died there on 21 January 1923. He taught literature in the Pious Schools, exerting a beneficial influence on many through his character and teaching ability.
Initially a participant in the manner not only of Carducci but also of Marradi, he possessed a patriotic, civic, and religious passion, which he expressed in personal ways. In his poems and in the two volumes of epitaphs (Cari morti, Florence 1909; Ricordi, there 1918), he achieved notable effects in advocating and formulating elevated sentiments and concepts.
