Manni, Giuseppe

MANNI, GIUSEPPE. - Piarist, writer and poet, b. in Florence on 20 Aug. 1844, d. there on 21 Jan. 1923. He taught letters in the Pious Schools, exerting a beneficial influence on many through his character and his teaching ability.

At first sharing in the manner, besides that of Carducci, of Marradi, he had a patriotic, civic and religious passion, which he expressed in personal ways. In his poems and in the two volumes of epigraphs (Cari morti, Florence 1909; Ricordi, ibid. 1918) he achieved distinguished effects in championing and in formulating lofty sentiments and concepts.
