MARY OF THE ANGELS, Blessed. - Born Marianna Fontanella, on 7 Jan. 1661 in Turin, where she became a Discalced Carmelite in the monastery of St. Christina (1676) and where she died on 16 Dec. 1717. After painful and long-lasting spiritual struggles, she was enriched with the gift of miracles, prophecy, visions, etc. The liberation of the city of Turin from the siege of 1706 was attributed to her intercession. She was beatified by Pius IX on 25 Apr. 1865. Her feast is celebrated, in the Carmelite Order, on 16 Dec.
