**BLESSED MARY OF THE ANGELS** — Born Maria, first Fontanella, on 11 January 1661 in Turin, where she entered the Discalced Carmelite monastery of St Christina in 1676 and died there on 16 December 1717. After painful and prolonged spiritual struggles, she was endowed with the gifts of miracles, prophecy, visions, etc. The liberation of the city of Turin from the siege of 1706 was attributed to her intercession. She was beatified by Pius IX on 25 April 1855. Her feast is celebrated in the Carmelite Order on 16 December.
