Momme Nissen, Benedetto

MOMME NISSEN, BENEDETTO. - Dominican, b. 26 April 1870 at Deezbuehl (Schleswig), d. 23 June 1943 at Ilanz (Graubünden).

Having met in 1890 Julius Langbehn, painter and critic, author of Rembrandt als Erzieher, he became his faithful friend and a capable biographer. At Altötting and at Munich M. N. had fruitful contacts with the nuncio Msgr. Frühwirth, who was not unconnected with his conversion; there soon followed his entry among the Dominicans in 1917, and his priestly ordination in 1922. Devoting himself with fervor to sacred oratory and to religious literature, M. N. achieved notable fame as a lecturer and ecclesiastical writer in the German-speaking countries.

Besides numerous and learned articles, he is owed: Der Rembrandtddeutsche (Freiburg im Br. 1926); Der Geist des Ganzen (ibid. 1930); Kultur der Seele (ibid. 1935); Meine Seele in der Welt (ibid. 1940).
