ORSI, GIUSEPPE AGOSTINO. – Theologian and Dominican cardinal, born in Florence on 9 May 1692, died in Rome on 13 June 1761. He became a religious at Fiesole in 1709, taught philosophy and theology at S. Marco in Florence, and was also prior there. From 1732 he served as theologian to Cardinal Neri Corsini in Rome and as a theologian at the Casanatense Library; from 1738 he was secretary of the Congregation of the Index, later Master of the Sacred Apostolic Palace (1749–59), and finally cardinal priest with the title of S. Sisto (24 September 1759). He was buried in his titular church.
As a theologian, polemicist, and historian, he left various works highly esteemed by his contemporaries. The first of these was the *Dissertazione*
