PERSONALITY. – In a metaphysical sense, personality expresses the constitutive determination of the person (v.), the foundation from which stem the possibilities and capacities of its actualization. One can therefore distinguish a twofold moment in the real structure of personality: the first, initial moment, which consists in the rational, intelligent, and free nature of man; the second, terminal moment, which concerns and expresses the exercise of freedom in act as an operative process of means toward an end, and thus as the unification and coordination of values.
