LITTLE MISSION FOR THE DEAF-MUTE. - Religious congregation founded in Bologna in 1890 by the priest brothers Giuseppe and Cesare Gualandi and approved by the Holy See in 1913.

It is composed of priests and lay brothers, consecrated to the instruction of the deaf-mute, and of pious sisters for deaf-mute women, with the teaching of an art or trade suited to their conditions and possibilities. But since, among the various aspects presented by the misfortune of these handicapped persons, the moral-religious one is the most pitiable, because, capable of doing evil, insofar as they are sound of mind, they cannot free themselves, without a solid spiritual formation, from a fatal ruin, to this education is directed the whole work of the P. m. for the deaf-mute, which has houses in Rome, Bologna, Florence, Teramo, Giulianova and in the provincial Institutes of Venice and Melfetta.
