PETER of Olaf (Petrus Olai). — Confessor of St BRIGID, a Cistercian in the convent of Alvastra (q.v.), for which reason he is also called P. of Alvastra, died at Vadstena in 1390.
He was beside Bridget in Rome about 1351 and in the last years of her life, assisting her in the drafting of the convent rules. He accompanied the Saint’s remains back to Sweden and returned to Italy, preparing (with her daughter St Catherine) the process for her canonization. He compiled a biography of Bridget and an account of her revelations, in collaboration with another monk of the same name.
