**PROSDOCIMUS, Saint.** — According to the common account, he would have been a disciple of Peter and sent by him to Padua as its first bishop; he would then have evangelized Este, Altino, Vicenza, Treviso, Feltre, Asolo, and also Oderzo, Concordia, and Belluno; he would have baptized the martyr Saint Justina, in whose vicinity he is said to have been buried.
The legend that recounts all this, replete with anachronisms and inconsistencies, does not date back earlier than the 11th–12th centuries. The saint is first mentioned in August 860 in connection with a church in the Veronese area, though without the title of bishop.
