SALAMON, LOUIS

He went young to Paris where he became a *conseiller-clerc* at the Parliament (1784). In 1790 Pius VII appointed him inter-nuncio to Louis XVI. Arrested by the revolutionaries on 27 Aug. 1792, he underwent a series of vicissitudes about which he himself wrote an account, published in Paris in 1890 by Abbot Bridier under the title: *Mémoires inédits de l'inter-nonce à Paris pendant la Révolution 1790-1801*. In 1801 he went to Rouen with the task of restoring peace among the clergy of the diocese, but met with little success. Titular Bishop of Orthosia in Caria (1806), Louis XVIII sent him to Rome in 1814 as Auditor of the Rota. Bishop of Belley in 1817, he never reached his see; transferred to St-Flour on 13 Jan. 1823, he devoted special care to the seminaries and monasteries there.
