SAMAIA

SAMAIA. – A name (Heb. Šēma'jah) fairly frequent in the Bible, rendered twice as S. in the Vulgate, Semeia (v.). In I Chron. 4:37 it appears in the genealogy of the descendants of the patriarch Simeon. In I Chron. 12:4 this is the name of a Gibeonite, a friend of David: he was the leader of the “thirty,” that is, of the corps most trusted and most highly esteemed for military valor.
