SAN PIETRO DI MUENSTER. — Abbacy and city in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada.
The Benedictine monastery (Congregation of American-Cassinese) was founded in 1892 at Wetaug, Illinois (United States), under the name of Cluny, and was later transferred to Canada in 1903 under the name of St. Peter’s. The abbey was erected in 1911 and raised to the status of an abbacy nullius by separation from St. Albert on May 6, 1921, for German-origin Catholics.
Today the abbey has one abbot, 34 religious priests, 13 churches with resident priests, 19 chapels, 1 college, 2 hospitals, and 11,500 Catholics. The clergy consists exclusively of Benedictines. There are also two female congregations: the Ursulines of Germany and the Sisters of St. Elizabeth.
