St. Peter of Münster

SAN PIETRO DI MUENSTER - Abbey nullius and town in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada.

The Benedictine monastery (American-Cassinese Congregation) was founded in 1892 at Wataug, Illinois (United States), under the name of Cluny, and was later transferred to Canada in 1903, under the name of St. Peter. The abbey was erected in 1911 and elevated to an abbey nullius by the dismemberment of St. Albert on May 6, 1921, for Catholics of German origin.

The abbey today has an abbot, 34 religious priests, 13 churches with a resident priest, 19 chapels, 1 college, 2 hospitals and 11,500 Catholics. The clergy is composed exclusively of Benedictines. There are also two female Congregations: Ursulines of Germany and Sisters of St. Elizabeth.
