SIMONE da LIPNICZA, blessed. - Franciscan priest, disciple of St. Giovanni da Capestrano, b. at Lipnicza (Cracovia), d. 18 July 1482.
A student at Cracovia, thanks to the preaching of St. Giovanni da Capestrano (1453), like his fellow disciples the blessed Giovanni da Dukla and Ladislao da Gielnow, he entered the Order of St. Francis, in which he shone by virtue and zeal. He was master of novices, guardian, and provincial. He spread devotion to the Most Holy Name of Jesus and to the Blessed Virgin, who appeared to him several times. His preferred motto was: « To pray, to work, and to hope ». In 1482, having returned from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, he died of the plague while exercising charity. His cult was approved by Innocent XI on 24 Feb. 1682.
