SIMON OF LIPNICA, Blessed. - Franciscan priest, disciple of St. John of Capistrano, b. at Lipnicza (Cracow), d. 18 July 1482.

A student at Cracow, thanks to the preaching of St. John of Capistrano (1453), like his fellow students the blessed John of Dukla and Ladislaus of Gielnow he entered the Order of St. Francis, in which he shone for virtue and zeal. He was master of novices, guardian and provincial. He spread devotion to the Most Holy Name of Jesus and to the B.V., who appeared to him several times. His favorite motto was: "To pray, to work and to hope." In 1482, having returned from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, he died of plague while exercising his charity. His cult was approved by Innocent XI on 24 Feb. 1682.
