SUPERANTIUS (SORANZO), NICOLAUS. - Jurist, b. in Venice in 1474, d. there on 20 Nov. 1546.
An Augustinian religious, he was prior of the monastery of Venice in 1544. Together with Pier Aurelio Sanuto and Marco Padovano he instigated the Council of Ten to issue a decree prejudicial to the authority of regular superiors. The timely intervention of Seripando thwarted the fraudulent maneuvers, which the senators had not taken into account, and the decree was withdrawn. Having recognized his error, S. went with Marco to Rome where, with Seripando's pardon, they also obtained that of the Pope. He edited the edition of William Heytesbury's book De sensu composito et diviso (Venice 1501). His known works are: De immortalitate animae contra Pomponatium (ibid. 1501); Annotationes ad Francisci Accolti primam partem Codici (Venice 1589); In Guidonis Baynis Rosarium, seu Commentarium in Decretum Gratiani (ibid. 1601); Annotationes ad Zabaretiae volumen Clementinarum (ibid. 1602).
