SUPERANTIUS (SORANZO), NICOLAUS. - Jurist, b. in Venezia in 1474, d. there on 20 Nov. 1546.
An Augustinian religious, he was prior of the monastery of Venezia in 1544. Together with Pier Aurelio Sanuto and Marco Padovano, he induced the Council of Ten to issue a decree prejudicial to the authority of regular superiors. The timely intervention of Seripando thwarted the fraudulent schemes, of which the senators had taken no account, and the decree was withdrawn. Once the error had been recognized, S. went with Marco to Roma where, with Seripando’s pardon, they also obtained that of the Pope. He edited the book by Guglielmo Heytesbury, De sensu composito et diviso (Venezia 1501). His known works are: De immortalitate animae contra Pomponatium (ivi 1501); Annotationes ad Francisci Accolti primam partem Codici (Venezia 1589); In Guidonis Baynis Rosarium, seu Commentarium in Decretum Gratiani (ivi 1601); Annotationes ad Zabaretiae volumen Clementinarum (ivi 1602).
