TAIGI, Anna Maria, Blessed. - B. in Siena on May 29, 1769, d. in Rome on June 9, 1837.
Having moved to Rome with her family in 1774, she had a hard life of work to support her own; in 1789 she married a servant of the Chigi household, to whom she bore seven children; in 1790 she enrolled in the Third Order of the Trinitarians. She showed herself the most accomplished model of spouse and mother, gladdening everything with her smile and taking upon her shoulders every most burdensome toil.

She took up a life of austere penance for the conversion of sinners and the needs of the Church, to which she added a heroic tolerance of physical and moral ills, of insults, misunderstandings and also aridity and darkness of spirit. She was favored with supernatural gifts; for 47 years she saw as in a sun, mysteriously suspended over her head, present but distant events, past and future, the state of consciences and above all the continuous iniquities committed against God; which intensified her spirit of love and reparation. She was consulted by many great figures of the Church and of the world. Her incorrupt body was brought in 1855 to S. Maria della Pace and in 1865 to the basilica of S. Crisogono, officiated by the Trinitarians. Beatified on May 30, 1920. Feast on June 9.
