UGOLINI, VINCENZO. - Musician, born at Perugia about 1570, died at Rome on 6 May 1638.
Having gone to Rome at a very young age, he studied with Nanino. He was maestro di cappella at S. M. Maggiore (1592-1603), at the cathedral of Benevento (1619-15), at Rome in S. Luigi dei Francesi (1616-20), then at the Cappella Giulia in S. Pietro (1620-26); and again at S. Luigi dei Francesi (1631-38). He published much sacred music: Mottetti a 8 voci (Rome 1644); 4 books of Mottetti da 1 a 4 voci con b. c. per l'organo (ibid. 1616-19); 2 volumes of Salmi a 8 voci (Venice 1620), 2 books of Messe a mottetto a 8 e 12 voci (Rome, 1623); Salmi e mottetti a 12 voci (Venice 1624); Psalmi ad Vespers (ibid. 1628). These are works of definite value, recalling the manner of Palestrina, of whom he was one of the best followers.
