ANDREA di GESÙ (da BRZESKO). — Discalced Carmelite, born in Brzesko (Poland), died on 29 April 1640. At the age of 15 he came to Rome to pursue humanistic studies, but, attracted by the oratorical charm of the celebrated mystic Giovanni di Gesù Maria, a friend of St. Roberto Bellarmino, he embraced the Teresian reform in 1602. Upon returning to Poland, he worked extensively for the defense of Catholicism and founded Carmelite convents in Krakow, Lublin, and Lviv. He wrote various spiritual works.
