ANDREA DI GESÙ (DA BRZESKO)

ANDREW OF JESUS (da Brzesko). - Discalced Carmelite, b. at Brzesko (Poland), d. 29 April 1640. At the age of 15 he came to Rome to complete his humanistic studies, but attracted by the oratorical charm of the famous mystic John of Jesus Mary, a friend of St. Robert Bellarmine, he embraced the Teresian reform in 1602. Having returned to Poland, he worked hard for the defense of Catholicism and founded Carmelite convents at Kraków, Lublin and Lviv. He wrote various spiritual works.
