ANDREA of JESUS (of BRZESKO). - Discalced Carmelite, born in Brzesko (Poland), died on 29 April 1640. At the age of 15 he came to Rome to pursue his humanistic studies, but drawn by the oratorical charm of the celebrated mystic GIOVANNI of JESUS MARIA, a friend of ST. ROBERTO BELLARMINO, he embraced the Teresian reform in 1602. Returning to Poland, he worked extensively for the defense of Catholicism and founded Carmelite convents in Kraków, Lublin, and Lviv. He wrote several spiritual works.
