ANTONIO dello SPIRITO SANTO. — Discalced Carmelite mystical writer, born in Monte Moro Velho (Coimbra), Portugal. At the proposal of Pietro II, king of Portugal, he was elected and consecrated bishop of Angola in 1674; but he died at Loanda that same year. He wrote Directorium regularium (Lyons 1661 [?]); Directorium confessariorum (ibid. 1671); Directorium mysticum (ibid. 1677), reprinted several times (latest ed. Paris 1904).
