### AUREA, Saint, Martyr

The date of Saint Aurea’s martyrdom in Ostia is uncertain. The *Passio* of A., in Greek *Chrysē*, and the other *Passiones* in which she appears are devoid of historical value. The *Martyrologium Hieronymianum* commemorates her on May 20 and August 22; the *Roman Martyrology* on August 24; and the Greek *Synaxaria* on January 30. At Ostia there was a basilica dedicated to her, which Popes Sergius I (687–701), Leo III (795–816), and Leo IV (847–855) restored. She remains the titular saint of Ostia’s cathedral.
