AUREA, saint, martyr. — The date of her martyrdom at Ostia is uncertain. The Passio of A., in Greek Chrysé, and the other Passiones in which she appears are devoid of value. The Martyrologium Hieronymianum commemorates her on 20 May and 22 August; the Roman Martyrology on 24 August; the Greek Synaxaria on 30 January. At Ostia there was a basilica dedicated to A., which Popes Sergius I (687–701), Leo

III (795–816), and Leo IV (847–55) restored. She is still the titular saint of the cathedral of Ostia.
