Aurea, Saint, Martyr

AUREA, SANTA, MARTIRE

Feast day: 24 August

Italian original Cite

AUREA, Saint, Martyr. - The date of her martyrdom in Ostia is uncertain. The Passio of A., in Greek Chrysé, and the other Passiones in which she appears are without value. The Hieronymian Martyrology commemorates her on 20 May and 22 August; the Roman Martyrology on 24 August; the Greek Synaxaria on 30 January. In Ostia there was a basilica dedicated to A., which the popes Sergius I (687-701), Leo III (795-816) and Leo IV (847-55) restored. It is still the titular church of the cathedral of Ostia.
