BUNDERIUS, JAN. - Latinized name of Van den Bundere, Dominican theologian, b. at Ghent in 1481 and d. there on 8 June 1557. He studied theology at Louvain, and within the Order held very honorable offices for several years: prior three times at Ghent, provincial vicar, and inquisitor in the diocese of Tournai. He taught theology almost until his death.

His numerous works directed against the Lutheran heresy have a polemical character, which makes them less interesting today. The principal ones are: Compendium dissidii quorundam haereticarum atque theologorum (Paris 1540); Detectio nugarum Lutheri (Louvain 1551); Scutum Fidei ortodoxae (Ghent 1556).
