BUNDERIUS, JAN. – Latinized name of Van den Bundere, a Dominican theologian, born in Ghent in 1481 and died there on 8 June 1557. He studied theology at Leuven. Within his Order, he held several highly honorific positions for many years: prior three times in Ghent, provincial vicar, and inquisitor in the diocese of Tournai. He taught theology almost until his death.
His numerous works directed against Lutheran heresy are of a polemical nature, which makes them less interesting today. The principal ones are: *Compendium dissidii quorundam haereticorum atque theologorum* (Paris 1540); *Detectio nugarum Lutheri* (Louvain 1551); *Scutum Fidei orthodoxae* (Ghent 1556).
