BUNDERIUS, JAN. — Latinized name of Van den Bundere, a Dominican theologian, born in Ghent in 1481 and died there on 8 June 1557. He studied theology at Louvain; within the Order he held highly honorable offices for several years: prior three times in Ghent, provincial vicar, and inquisitor in the diocese of Tournai. He taught theology almost until his death.
His numerous works directed against the Lutheran heresy are polemical in character, which makes them less interesting today. The principal ones are: Compendium dissidii quorundam haereticarum atque theologorum (Paris 1540); Detectio nugarum Lutheri (Louvain 1551); Scutum Fidei ortodoxae (Ghent 1556).
