BREVIARIUM ALARICIANUM: V. ALBERICO DI REIMS.
BREVICOXA. — This is the Latinized name of Giovanni Courtecuisse. Theologian, statesman, and orator of the University of Paris during the Western Schism, he was born in Haleine (Orne) around the mid-14th century and died in Geneva on March 4, 1423. He studied at the Collège de Navarre in Paris, where he later taught theology with such success that he earned the title of *Doctor sublimis*. Protected by the court, he obtained numerous ecclesiastical benefices and positions and took an active part in all initiatives aimed at ending the schism. Appointed Bishop of Paris on December 27, 1420, by the will of Charles VI, he was unable to remain there due to opposition from Henry V of England; he was therefore transferred by the Pope to the see of Geneva.
Several theological works and various manuscript sermons by him survive. Only the *Tractatus de fide et Ecclesia, de Romano pontifice et concilio generali* (Paris, 1706) has been printed, in which B. denies papal infallibility and defends the superiority of the ecumenical council.
