CANEVARI (CANNEVARI, CANNERARI), ANTONIO. — Architect, born in Rome in 1681, died in Naples c. 1750. A pupil of Antonio Valeri, he built on the Caelian Hill in Rome the convent of SS. Giovanni e Paolo and carried out the remodeling of the church. He completed the church of the Stimmate, already begun by Contini, as well as the church and portico of S. Eustachio.
Some of his designs for the sacristy of St. Peter’s and for the arrangement of the garden of the Arcadia were not executed. In addition to working in Italy, he was active in Portugal during the reign of John V. S. Giuseppe, his finest works. In 1724 he was an academician of S. Luca.
