CANEVARI (CANNEVARI, CANNERARI), ANTONIO. — Architect, born in Rome in 1681, died in Naples around 1750. A pupil of Antonio Valeri, he built the convent of SS. Giovanni e Paolo on the Caelian Hill in Rome and carried out the rebuilding of the church. He completed the church of the Stigmata, begun by Contini, and the church and portico of S. Eustachio.
Some of his projects for the sacristy of S. Pietro and for the arrangement of the Arcadia garden were never executed. In addition to Italy, he worked in Portugal, during the reign of Giovanni V. S. Giuseppe, his finest works. In 1724 he was a member of the Academy of S. Luca.
