COLLEGIO BRIGNOLE SALE NEGRONE. — It was founded in 1852 by the marquis Antonio Brignole Sale together with his wife Artemisia Negrone, with the aim of educating in sacred studies a number of young men chosen from various dioceses of Italy and France for the propagation of Christian civilization in pagan regions.
The college is located in Genoa and is directed by the Lazarists. Only theological instruction is provided there; upon completing it, the students are placed at the disposal of the S. Congregation of Propaganda Fide or of the Ordinary of the diocese to which they had originally belonged. From its inauguration (1853) to the present day (1949), the c. has given the missions approximately 600 priests, most of whom were assigned to Palestine, Canada, Australia, China, Ceylon, and the United States of America.
