COLLEGIO BRIGNOLE SALE NEGRONE

BRIGNOLE SALE NEGRONE COLLEGE. - It was founded in 1852 by the Marquis Antonio Brignole Sale together with his consort Artemisia Negrone, for the purpose of educating in sacred studies certain young men chosen from various dioceses of Italy and France for the propagation of Christian civilization in pagan regions.

The college is based in Genoa, and the Lazarists have its direction. In it only theological instruction is imparted, at the end of which the students are placed at the disposal of the S. Congregation of Propaganda Fide or of the Ordinary of the diocese on which they originally depended. From its inauguration (1853) to the present (1949) the c. has given to the missions about 600 priests, the majority of whom were assigned to Palestine, Canada, Australia, China, Ceylon and the United States of America.
