DEL COLLE, RAFFAELLINO. — Raffaello di Michelangelo di Luca di Michelangelo dal Colle, painter, born in Borgo San Sepolcro around 1490, died there on 17 November 1566. He was a pupil of Raphael and Giulio Romano, with whom he collaborated on the decoration of the Sala di Costantino (he is attributed with the fresco depicting the Donation of Constantine to the Pope, 1525).
At the Villa Imperiale in Pesaro, he was assigned the decoration of the room with the Calumny of Apelles. He executed numerous paintings while residing in Borgo San Sepolcro (1530); among these, noteworthy is the Resurrection of Christ in the Duomo, displaying a Mannerism blending Raphael’s and Michelangelo’s styles, with Vasarian Tuscan elements. These characteristics, sometimes altered by Northern influences, are found in the Deposition, the Annunciation, and the Assumption, works preserved in the Civic Museum of Città di Castello.
