DEL COLLE, RAFFAELLINO. - Raffaello di Michelangelo di Luca di Michelangelo dal Colle, painter, b. at Borgo S. Sepolcro around 1490, d. there on 17 Nov. 1566. He was a pupil of Raffaello and Giulio Romano, with whom he collaborated on the decoration of the Hall of Constantine (the fresco representing Constantine’s gift to the Pope, 1525, is attributed to him).
In the imperial villa at Pesaro he is credited with the decoration of the hall containing the Calumny of Apelles. He executed numerous paintings while residing at Borgo S. Sepolcro (1530), among which should be mentioned the Resurrection of Christ in the Cathedral, in a mannerism intermediate between that of Raffaello and Michelangelo, with Vasarian Tuscanisms. These characteristics, at times modified by northern influences, are found in the Deposition, the Annunciation, and the Assumption, works preserved in the Civic Museum of Città di Castello.
