DEL COLLE, RAFFAELLINO. - Raffaello di Michelangelo di Luca di Michelangelo dal Colle, painter, b. at Borgo Sansepolcro in about 1490, d. there on 17 November 1566. He was a pupil of Raphael and of Giulio Romano, with whom he collaborated on the decoration of the Hall of Constantine (the fresco with Constantine's gift to the Pope, 1525, is attributed to him).
In the imperial villa at Pesaro he was assigned the decoration of the hall with the Calumny of Apelles. He executed numerous paintings while residing at Borgo Sansepolcro (1530), among which mention should be made of the Resurrection of Christ in the Cathedral, in a mannerism between Raphaelesque and Michelangelesque, with Vasarian Tuscanisms. These characteristics, at times modified by Northern influences, are found again in the Deposition, the Annunciation and the Assumption, works preserved in the Civic Museum of Città di Castello.
