SIMPLICIUS, FAUSTINUS AND VIATRIX, Saints, Martyrs. - They are commemorated in the Martyrologies on 29 July; they are also still remembered on the same date in the Sacramentaries; the Itineraries of the 7th century record their tombs on the Via Portuense " ad sextum Philippi ", that is, in the cemetery of Generosa (v.).

There, in the last century, were discovered the ruins of the basilica built in their honor by Pope Damasus in 382, together with a fragment of the dedicatory inscription, and a painting of the 6th century depicting the martyrs (reproduced at the entry GENEROSA). In 682-83 Pope Leo II transferred their bodies to a chapel near the church of St. Bibiana. Their Passio, highly fanciful, was often joined to that of Anthimus (BHL, 561-65).
