Hominis Superne Conditor

"HOMINIS SUPERNE CONDITOR". - Hymn of Vespers for Friday, belonging to the Irish-Anglo-Saxon group.

The poet draws his inspiration from the account of the sixth day of Creation (Gen. 1:24-28), which culminates in the appearance of man, who came to rule over all creation. In humble prayer, God is asked that man may overcome the instincts of greed and cultivate sentiments of peace, God's gift and a foretaste of the joy of paradise.
