IACOPINO DA TRADATE. - Lombard sculptor, he took part in the works for the construction of MilanCathedral from 1401 to 1425, and in 1407 he was head of the stonecutters. In 1440 he is known to have been in Mantua, where he probably died.
His only certain work is the statue of Pope Martin V in the Cathedral, which must be considered one of the most important works of Lombard sculpture of the early decades of the 1400s, in which the tendencies of the International Gothic expand into a broad picturesqueness, not without Tuscan influences. Recently notable progress has been made in defining his personality by attributing to him two gigantic figures from the piers of Milan Cathedral, and other exquisite works, such as the Torelli tomb in S. Eustorgio and a Madonna and Child in the Museum of Novara.
