IACOPINO da TRADATE. – Lombard sculptor who took part in the works for the construction of Milan Cathedral from 1401 to 1425, and in 1407 was head of the stonecutters. In 1440 he is known to have been in Mantua, where he probably died.
The only certain work by him is the statue of Pope Martin V in the Cathedral, which should be considered one of the most important works of Lombard sculpture in the first decades of the 1400s, in which the tendencies of International Gothic broaden into an ample pictorialism, not devoid of Tuscan influences. Recently, notable progress has been made in defining his personality by attributing to him two gigantic figures on the piers of Milan Cathedral, as well as other exquisite works, such as the Torelli Ark in S. Eustorgio and a Madonna and Child in the Museum of Novara.
