Lambertini, Imelda, Blessed

LAMBERTINI, IMELDA, blessed. — Dominican, born in Bologna around 1321–22, died there on 12 May 1333.

A member of the noble Lambertini family, at the age of ten she entered the monastery of S. M. Maddalena di Valdipietra, outside the city walls. There the well-known Eucharistic miracle took place: it is related, in fact, that the young religious was persistently denied the Eucharist on account of her tender age; but the Lord saw to it that she received Communion through a miraculous Host. Then, having withdrawn to give thanks, she was found lifeless. The information reported above derives from a tenuous tradition.

Under the patronage of b. L., in May 1891, the Confraternity of Good First Communion and Perseverance arose at Prouille, in the diocese of Carcassonne. The blessed is also patroness of the Beniamine of the Italian Catholic Action for Young Women and titular of a Congregation (cf. DOMENICANE DELLA B. IMELDA).
