MAGISTRETTI, MARCO

MAGISTRETTI, MARCO. — Liturgist and historian, born in Milan on 19 July 1862. Ordained a priest in 1884, he became prefect and master of the Sacred Ceremonies there in 1890; in 1896, a member of the Società storica lombarda; in 1901, a corresponding member of the R. Deputazione di storia patria; in 1905, an ordinary canon of the Capitolo maggiore; in 1916, a councillor of the Società storica lombarda; in 1919, director of the Biblioteca capitolare; in 1921, president of the board of administration of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana. He died at S. Giovanni alla Castagna (Lecco) on 20 November 1921.

He began his critical studies of the Ambrosian liturgy with Mons. A. Ratti (Pio XI) and A. M. Ceriani.

His principal works are: Testo e note del Beroldus sive Ecclesiae Ambrosianae Calendarium et Ordines saec. XII (Milan 1894); Cenni storici sul rito ambrosiano (there 1895); Pontificale in usum Eccl. Mediol. ex codicibus saec. IX-XV (there 1897); La liturgia della Chiesa milanese nel sec. IV (vol. I in 1899; part of vol. II, concerning the liturgical year, in Ambrosius, 1937 and 1938; the work was partly disputed); Notitia cleri Mediolanensis de anno 1398 ca. ipsius immunitatem (Milan 1900); Delle vesti ecclesiastiche in Milano (there 1905); Manuale Ambrosianum ex codice saec. XI olim canonicae Vallis Travaliae (2 vols., there 1905: text, introductions, notes); Missale Ambrosianum duplex (there 1913, in collaboration with Mons. Achille Ratti); Liber Notitiae vnctorum Mediolani ex ms. saec. XIII, there 1917, in collaboration with U. Monneret de Villard. The complete list of his works is in Ambrosius, 1937, pp. 237–40.
