MICHIEL, GIOVANNI. - Cardinal, born in Venice in 1446, died in Rome on 10 April 1503. Created cardinal by his uncle Paul II on 21 November 1468, he later became bishop of Verona (18 March 1471) and of Padua (1485), and also patriarch of Constantinople (23 January 1497). As legate of Innocent VIII to Ferdinand, king of Naples, he succeeded in concluding peace with him on 11 August 1486. He died by poisoning at the hands of Cesare Borgia, who coveted his wealth.
