MICHIEL, GIOVANNI. – Cardinal, born in Venice in 1446, died in Rome on 10 April 1503. Created a cardinal by his uncle Paolo II on 21 November 1468, he subsequently became bishop of Verona (18 March 1471) and of Padua (1485), as well as patriarch of Constantinople (23 January 1497). As Innocent VIII’s legate to Ferdinand, king of Naples, he succeeded in concluding with him the peace of 11 August 1486. He died of poison at the hands of Cesare Borgia, who coveted his wealth.
