MINGARELLI, GIOVANNI LUIGI. – Orientalist and patrologist, born at Grizzana (Bologna) on 27 February 1722 and died at Bologna on 10 March 1793. He studied at Bologna, where he donned the habit of the Canons Regular at S. Salvatore and spent his life, apart from a brief period of study in Rome. In 1764 he was appointed lecturer at the archigymnasium, a position he held until his death, together with that of procurator general of the Order. The fruit of his research in the Library of S. Salvatore and among the codices of the Naniana Collection in Venice and of that of Cardinal Passionei was a large number of publications of Greek and Latin manuscripts. He was the first to print certain Coptic codices found in the Naniana Library.
