MINGARELLI, GIOVANNI LUIGI. - Orientalist and patrologist, b. at Grizzana (Bologna) on 27 Feb. 1722 and d. at Bologna on 10 March 1793. He studied at Bologna, where he took the habit of the Canons Regular at St. Salvatore and spent his life, except for a brief period of study in Rome. In 1764 he was appointed lecturer at the Archiginnasio, a post he held until his death together with that of procurator general of the Order. The fruit of his research in the Library of St. Salvatore and among the codices of the Naniana Collection of Venice and that of Cardinal Passionei were numerous publications of Greek and Latin manuscripts. He was the first to print certain Coptic codices, found in the Naniana Library.
Several works of M. remained in manuscript.
