MINGARELLI, GIOVANNI LUIGI. - Orientalist and patrologist, born in Grizzana (Bologna) on 27 Feb. 1722, died in Bologna on 10 March 1793. He studied in Bologna, where he took the habit of the Canons Regular at S. Salvatore and spent his life there, except for a brief period of study in Rome. In 1764 he was appointed reader at the Archiginnasio, a position he held until his death, alongside that of procurator general of his Order. The fruit of his research in the Library of S. Salvatore and among the codices of the Nanian Collection in Venice and that of Cardinal Passionei were numerous publications of Greek and Latin manuscripts. He was the first to print some Coptic codices found in the Nanian Library.
