PALLADINI, GIACOMO. - Theologian and bishop, b. in Teramo in 1349, d. in Poland in 1417. Archdeacon of Antwerp and, in Rome, secretary for Briefs and at the Penitentiary, promoted bishop, he passed successively through the sees of Monopoli (1391), Taranto (1400), Florence (1401) and Spoleto (1410), of whose duchy, under Alexander V and John XXIII, he was also governor. Under Martin V he was entrusted with a mission to Poland.
More than for his theological and juridical works, such as: De Pontificis Maximi monarchia (s. n. t.); De prophetis (s. n. t.); De remediis conversorum (s. n. t.); In libros Sententiarum commentarius (Augsburg 1472), he became famous for the ascetic novel Consolatio peccatorum seu Processus Luciferis contra J. C. (ibid. 1472), which enjoyed great vogue and many translations and was finally placed on the Index.
