PRÜMMER, DOMINIKUS. - Dominican moral theologian, b. at Kalterherberg on 3 Sept. 1866, d. at Fribourg (Switzerland) on 9 June 1931. A religious from 1884, he studied at Venlo and Louvain, taught theology at Venlo and Düsseldorf, and was prior there from 1903 to 1906. He was then professor of moral theology at Hawkesyard in England (1906-1908), and subsequently at Fribourg (1908-31).
Highly esteemed for the clarity of his exposition and the soundness of his doctrine, he wrote: Manuale theologiae moralis (3 vols., Fribourg in Br. 1915; 10th ed. Barcelona 1946), still widely used; Vademecum theologiae moralis in usum examinandorum et confessariorum (Fribourg 1921; 6th ed. Barcelona 1947), widely circulated; and the Manuale iuris ecclesiastici (2 vols., Fribourg 1907-1909, later adapted to the CIC; 6th ed., ibid. 1933). He wrote many articles in various journals of ecclesiastical culture.
