Prümmer, Dominikus

PRÜMMER, DOMINIKUS. - Dominican moral theologian, b. at Kalterherberg on 3 Sept. 1866, d. at Fribourg (Switzerland) on 9 June 1931. A religious from 1884, he studied at Venlo and Louvain, taught theology at Venlo and Düsseldorf; there he was prior from 1903 to 1906. He was then professor of moral theology at Hawkesyard in England (1906-1908) and then at Fribourg (1908-31).

Much esteemed for the clarity of his exposition and the soundness of his doctrine, he wrote: Manuale theologiae moralis (3 vols., Fribourg in Br. 1915; 10th ed. Barcelona 1946), still much used; Vademecum theologiae moralis in usum examinandorum et confessariorum (Fribourg 1921; 6th ed. Barcelona 1947), very widespread, and the Manuale iuris ecclesiastici (2 vols., Fribourg 1907-1909, later adapted to the CIC; 6th ed., ibid. 1933). He wrote many articles in various journals of ecclesiastical culture.
