RAMBERTO dei PRIMADIZZI. - Dominican theologian, born in Bologna, died at Castello (Venice) on Nov. 8, 1308. He entered religious life in his native city, studied in Bologna and Paris, and was a disciple of St. Thomas.

A master in theology, he taught in Paris and in Bologna, where he was also a consultor of the Holy Office (1288-91, 1299-1303). He participated in the General Chapter of Palencia (1291) and declared himself in favor of the master general Munio of Zamora, whom Nicholas IV wished to depose. On Feb. 20, 1308, he was appointed bishop of Castello. Having received his license in Paris, he must have written a commentary on the Sentences and perhaps, as a master, left some Quodlibeta; however, no trace of them remains. Only his Apologeticum veritatis contra corruptorium is preserved. With this work, written probably in Paris, Ramberto refutes all the criticisms that William de la Ware had leveled against St. Thomas, while not sparing other anti-Thomists such as Henry of Ghent, Matthew of Acquasparta, and Giles of Rome.
