QUADRUPANI, CARLO GIUSEPPE. — Barnabite, preacher “tota Italia celeberrimus,” born at Induno (Varese) in 1740, died there on 14 July 1806. He was provost of S. Alessandro in Milan and Provincial Superior of Lombardy.
After his first Lenten course in 1771 in the church of S. Lorenzo in Damaso in Rome, his ordinary mission was preaching: for 38 continuous years he preached Lent in the principal cities of Italy, while expounding Scripture in the churches of his Order, giving spiritual exercises to clergy and laity, and being much sought after in the confessional and at the bedside of the dying. lasciati dal p. d. C. G. Q. cher. reg. barnabita, in occasione degli Spirituali Esercizi che diede nella metropolitana di Torino, dopo l'ottava di Pasqua del 1795 (Torino 1795; P. B. Lanteri [v.] contributed his assistance in preparing this first edition). The title Documenti per tranquillare le anime timorose nelle loro dubbiezze was given from the 50th edition onward (Milan 1807); the work was subsequently republished down to our own day and translated into several languages, with more than a hundred editions.
The Documenti pratici per vivere cristianamente are also by Q. (posthumous, Milan 1807; and subsequently in many editions, sometimes together with the Documenti per tranquillare ecc., and often under the cumulative title Documenti di vita spirituale).
