SACCO, VINCENZO. - Jurist, b. at Bologna on 14 May 1681, d. there on 25 March 1744.
In 1709 he devoted himself to teaching civil law and, subsequently, canon law. Owing to his legal acumen, he was called to serve on the Legal Council that rendered judgment on the marriage articles concerning the marriage of the Grand Duchess Margherita Luigia d'Orléans. He combined his professorship with political appointments and was councillor of state to the Palatine electors Giovanni Guglielmo and Carlo Filippo. Emperor Carlo VI appointed him knight of the Holy Roman Empire and count palatine; Pope Clemente XII conferred upon him the title of count. In his native city he was magistrate of the Anziani, assessor of the Acque, judge of the Foro dei Mercanti, and president of the S. Monte di Pietà.
He wrote: Introductio ad studium utriusque iuris (Bologna 1711); Institutiones iuris canonici libri quatuor (there 1713, 3rd ed. 1741); In quatuor libros institutionum iuris civilis commentaria cum municipali Bononiae iure (there 1716; 4th ed., enlarged by his son Filippo, Venice 1760); Observationes politico-legales ad statuta Bononiae (there 1763).
