VINCENZO SACCO. — Jurist, b. Bologna 14 May 1851, d. there 25 March 1744.
In 1709 he took up the teaching of civil law and later of canon law. For his legal acumen he was called to serve on the legal council that delivered judgment on the marriage articles relating to the marriage of the Grand Duchess Margherita Luigia of Orléans. He alternated between his professorship and political assignments, serving as a state councillor to the Palatine Electors Giovanni Guglielmo and Carlo Filippo. Emperor Charles VI created him a knight of the Holy Roman Empire and a count palatine; Pope Clement XII conferred on him the title of count. In his native city he served as magistrate of the Anziani, assessor of the Waters, judge of the Mercantile Court, and president of the Monte di Pietà.
He wrote: *Introduciò ad studium utriusque iuris* (Bologna 1711); *Institutiones iuris canonici libri quatuor* (ibid. 1713, 3rd ed. 1741); *In quatuor libros institutionum iuris civilis commentaria cum municipali Bononiae iure* (ibid. 1716; 4th ed., augmented by his son Filippo, Venice 1760); *Observationes politico-legales ad statuta Bononiae* (ibid. 1763).
