SACCO, VINCENZO. - Jurist, b. in Bologna on 14 May 1681, d. there on 25 March 1744.

In 1709 he devoted himself to the teaching of civil law and, subsequently, of canon law. For his juridical acumen he was called to be part of the legal Council that pronounced judgment on the marriage articles relating to the marriage of the Grand Duchess Marguerite Louise d'Orléans. He alternated the professorial chair with political offices and was a councilor of state to the Palatine Electors John William and Charles Philip. Emperor Charles VI named him a knight of the Holy Roman Empire and count palatine; Pope Clement XII conferred on him the title of count. In his native city he was a magistrate of the Anziani, assessor of the Waters, judge of the Forum of Merchants and president of the S. Monte di Pietà.

He wrote: Introductio ad studium utriusque iuris (Bologna 1711); Institutiones iuris canonici libri quatuor (ibid. 1713, 3rd ed. 1741); In quatuor libros institutionum iuris civilis commentaria cum municipali Bononiae iure (ibid. 1716; 4th ed., enlarged under the care of his son Filippo, Venice 1760); Observationes politico-legales ad statuta Bononiae (ibid. 1763).
