SARAIA (Hebr. Šerājāh). — Name of several figures in the Old Testament.
1. Secretary (literally “scribe”) at the court of David (II Sam. 8, 17).
2. High priest at the end of the kingdom of Judah, taken captive to Babylon (II Reg. 25, 18).
3. Distinguished figure at the court of Ioakim (Ier. 36, 26).
4. Brother of Baruch, who was sent by Sedecias on an embassy to Babylon (ibid. 51, 59).
5. Leader of military bands, who joined Godolia at Maspha (Ier. 40, 8; II Reg. 25, 23).
6. Member of the tribe of Judah, of the lineage of Cenez (I Par. 4, 13, 14).
7. Father of Esdra (cf. Esd. 7, 1).
8. Priest who returned from the exile with Zorobabel (Neh. 12, 1).
