«SEDIBUS CAELI NITIDIS RECEPTOS». — Hymn of Vespers in the Office of ss. Cirillo and Metodio, whose feast Leo XIII made obligatory for the universal Church on 30 September 1880.
The hymn was composed by the Scolopian Fr. Leonetti, with a stanza added by Salvati, secretary of the S. Congr. of Rites; the whole was emended by Tripepi and Caprara.
After an invitation to celebrate the feast of the two holy brothers, pillars of the Slavic Church, the poet exalts their deeds in the evangelization of the Bulgarians, Moravians, and Bohemians, and makes therein, with extreme delicacy, an appeal for the union of East and West.
