Sedibus Caeli Nitidis Receptos

"SEDIBUS CAELI NITIDIS RECEPTOS." - Hymn of Vespers in the Office of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, whose feast Leo XIII made obligatory for the universal Church on Sept. 30, 1880.

The hymn was composed by the Piarist Father Leonetti, with the addition of a stanza by Salvati, secretary of the Sacred Congregation of Rites; the whole was emended by Tripepi and Caprara.

After an invitation to celebrate the feast of the two holy brothers, pillars of the Slavic Church, the poet extols their deeds in the evangelization of the Bulgarians, the Moravians, and the Bohemians, and with extreme delicacy makes an appeal therein for the union of the East with the West.
