His coat of arms features, on a blue field, three s. s. and s. with a golden handle. In 1384, together with some companions, he undertook a journey to the East during wartime, visiting Alexandria, Cairo, Sinai, Gaza, Hebron, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jerusalem, the Jordan, Tiberias, and finally Damascus. His account, titled *Viaggio al Monte Sinai* (to be compared with *Viaggio in Terra Santa* by N. Frescobaldi, his fellow pilgrim, and with *Libro d'oltre mare* by Niccolò da Poggibonsi, a Franciscan who made the journey in 1345 and resided in Palestine for four years), is an important document for understanding the history of the Holy Places as they appeared to 14th-century pilgrims, and a text of the *buon secolo* among the most admired.
