Having entered the Order in 1635, from 1646 to 1659 he taught mathematics and Hebrew with great success at the University of Ingolstadt, until he set out for the Ethiopian mission with Fr. Enrico Roth, making the journey overland through Asia Minor and Persia as far as Goa in India, where he exercised the parochial ministry in the neighborhood of the city. He succeeded in penetrating into Ethiopia only in 1656, disguised as an Armenian physician, and stopped at Gondar. Since the persecution of the emperor Fasiladas had almost entirely ruined the Catholic Church, he could find no other activity by which he might secretly serve the few Christians who remained firm in the faith, than to continue the art of medicine, concealing his status as a missionary. Thus he was even able to enjoy the favor of the emperor, who gave him various fields and granted him permission to live at his court and to accompany him on various journeys. His last letter is from 1658; after that nothing could be learned of him; whether he died of illness or of martyrdom remains a secret.
